Log out button isn't working

I don't know where to put this.  Just to let you know.  I can't log out.  The button isn't working.  It's just looping.

9:40 p.m.  I see that a few other people who were logged in when I first noticed this problem are now logged out.  I don't know computers very well.  The button used to work for me.
Still ending the day logged in

Re: Log out button isn't working

It worked this morning.  I guess it just wanted to stay awake all night.

I guess it had insomnia last night.

Oops, spoke too soon.  It's looping again.  Got to go to work.  I apologize if I appear to be perpetually logged in.  I didn't use to have any problem logging out.  Just started last night.

Re: Log out button isn't working

Happened to me, too, one day a while back.  People must have thought I was logged on all day.  It went away so no worries.  Probably just a glitch.  smile

Re: Log out button isn't working

Having run forums in the past and still have one for my own website.

This is how it'll work.

If you're inactive and not opening any pages on the forums for mroe then 5 minutes, according to the server you'll be logged out. Next time you refresh or load a page, it'll log you back in right away.

Infact, you dont even need to use the logout button unless you're unsing a public computer.

Myriad, I've been on this forum for how long now?  I always log in and out.  Nothing automatic to me.  Doesn't everyone here do the same?

Re: Log out button isn't working

No, I dont have to login everytime I come here. My two computers are only me who use them, work and home. So I have no need to ever log out.

Re: Log out button isn't working

But it says at the top of this site's page "You are not logged in".  So I have to log in to post, right?

Me and hubby are the only two people to use our computer.  Kids have their own.  Does this make a difference?

Re: Log out button isn't working

Thanks everybody for your explanations and help.

I figured it out this morning.  I downloaded to try last night the Google Web Accelerator.  It's a free download to speed up web surfing for people that have DSL.  The instructions say you can use it with dial up but you may not notice much improvement.  The system is still experimental and partially works by doing stuff to web pages and some sites are not compatible or you may not want Google going through it for privacy reasons.  You can select and put certain sites off limits for the Google Web Accelerator.  As soon as I put Starship Capricorn on the list the Log Out button resumed working.

If you want to try the accelerator, here's the link:
http://webaccelerator.google.com/

You get this nifty little counter that shows how much time you've saved.  Right now I've saved only 38.2 seconds but then I just sat down at the computer and StarshipCapricorn was the first site I went into and that only to check the log our button before I put the forum on the off limits list.  Mine is a low level DSL so those of you with dial up might want to try it and see if it speeds anything up for you.  Make sure you go into the preferences and check dial up as it defaults to DSL.  It's experimental and only available right now for North America & Europe.

www.cablenut.com

cablenut will allow you to make some adjustments which may improve your broadband connection.

may seem complex at first but it sure works

I have used half a dozen browsers. I now use Opera it seems the fastest on loading pages.

Maybe you would see speed improvement if you tried it

Re: Log out button isn't working

Thanks, Who Am I

The Google Web Accelerator still works on other sites but Capricorn isn't compatible with it, at least if you don't want to be perpetually logged in.  I might try your suggestions if they're not too complicated.  I'm not very computer savvy.

Thank you,

Amethyst

Remember there was a time long ago you could not tie your shoes, or tell what time the clock said...

We have all come so far, far, far this life.

If cable nut is too difficult...then at least Opera seems fail safe and has speeded up my browsing due to its speeeeeed.

best of luck and there are many computer oriented forums full of helpful friendly people.
